Positive Attitude Tips:
Learn Effective Self-Growth Tools

What if having a more positive attitude isn’t as hard as it seems?

Practicing positive attitude tips for just minutes a day can help you in gaining self-confidence and literally transform your life. How we see and interpret things is really more important than what is actually happening. This does not imply that our lives won’t have difficulties, because that seems to be a fundamental aspect of life on this planet.

We always have a choice as to how we respond to all aspects of our lives. We can change our negative thinking habits to new, improved, positive thinking habits and even though our lives might not immediately change, it will feel like our life is different.

However, it has also been my experience that as my thinking and attitude change, life gets easier and I find myself gaining in self-confidence that I have life skills to handle whatever occurs. But even if that weren’t true, when we’re feeling peaceful and having positive thinking, in that moment, all is well, on a level that is much deeper than any life circumstance.

Happy Way Tip: Positive Visualization

Try this little negative to positive visualization exercise:

You can use the example below and then do a similar process with other things in your life that you're wanting to see in a more positive way.

Imagine you are in a traffic jam. You are running late, feeling impatient, anxious, angry – however, you might feel in this circumstance. Take a minute or two to be with this visualization. Notice how this feels in your body. What kinds of thoughts are going through your mind?

Let go of that scene and take a few slow deep breaths.

Imagine once again, you’re running late and in a traffic jam. However, this time you decide to react with a more positive attitude – since you’re in this traffic jam, whether you like it or not.

You notice that it is a sunny day, with a few wisps of clouds in the sky. You look at the sky and take some easy deep breaths. You then notice the green grass and wild flowers growing next to the highway. You look at them as you breath deeply.

You then think about someone in your life that you find easy to love and feel grateful for (this could be a person or an animal companion/pet). You think about a pleasant time you spent with this person/pet, and what you appreciate about them.

Notice how this feels in your body. What kinds of thoughts are going on in your mind?

Enjoy turning difficulties into opportunities to look for the positive.

Boost Your Appreciation of the Ordinary

When I was a kid, one of my favorite party games was to go on a scavenger hunt. We’d form teams, be given a list of items to bring back and go out into the neighborhood, scavenging for such treasures as a red rubber band, an old TV guide, a top from a pop bottle. First team back was the winner.

This gratitude list game is a scavenger hunt in reverse. Instead of being given a list, you’re going to compile a list. Also, everyone is a winner, because the more appreciation ideas you have, the more happiness and an attitude of gratitude you’ll experience.

Look around your home and make a list of things that make your life easier (running water, your oven, bed, etc.) and more beautiful (artwork, plants, . Pick a few items from your gratitude list and think about all that had to happen in order for that item to be in your home.

Contemplate, all the people that helped create it and get it to your home and all the things that are part of it.

Take a pottery bowl for instance. Think of the earth that the clay came out of and someone digging up the clay. Then think of the potter, sitting at their wheel forming the bowl. Picture them later firing the bowl and the bowl cooling. Next the potter would pick out glazes to make the pot beautiful, and the process continues. You could then picture the bowl being delivered to a store, or gallery and the sales clerk helping you select it. The idea is to feel gratitude for all that it took to create that one bowl.

If you do this process with a few simple things on your gratitude list, you will probably be amazed and how much appreciation you experience.

This is a great appreciation ideas exercise to do while eating. Having appreciation for the earth, the seeds, imagining the vegetable growing, the farmer tending it, and all the steps that came after that.
