Hypnosis: Myths and Truth. Hypnosis is way different than what most people think!
Myth: Hypnosis is a deep trancelike state.
Truth: Hypnosis ranges from a feeling of being lightly relaxed to being in a deep hypnotic state. The client might be aware of everything that is occurring or consciously remember very little after emerging from hypnosis. The subconsious mind is in charge and highly aware.

Myth: To be effective the client needs to go into a deep hypnotic state.
Truth: How deep the client goes does not impact the effectiveness of the session. The client only needs to have willingness, which they demonstrate by coming to the session and rapport with and confidence in the hypnotist, so they feel comfortable relaxing.

Myth: The hypnotist controls the client.
Truth: All hypnosis is really self-hypnosis. The hypnotist is there to help guide and support the client. The client can bring themselves out of hypnosis any time they choose.

Myth: Don't stage hypnotists control the people on the stage?
Truth: People who volunteer to be hypnotized on stage want to be hypnotized and do silly things. If they are given a suggestion they don't want to follow, they simply don't do it.

Myth: What if I can't wake up at the end of a session?
Truth: Hypnosis is not like sleep. It is a state of being relaxed and at the subconscious level being very alert. It's more like the feeling of being in the flow-like an athlete or artist, or anyone deeply involved in an activity that feels pleasant, effortless and timeless. Since hypnosis is not being asleep, there is no need to wake up. The client naturally emerges from the hypnosis.

Myth: I'll reveal things I don't want to reveal, while in hypnosis.
Truth: We are much more likely to do that when in our "normal" state. Ever been talking to a friend and you reveal something that you hadn't intended to?
In hypnosis our subconscious mind takes on a protective role and we only reveal what is helpful for us.
