Fake Laughter: Leads to Real Laughter, Emotional Wellness, Playfulness and Other Good Stuff.
Look for ways each day to laugh and smile. If you just practice laughing and smiling, you'll do it more easily and more often and all those wonderful happiness "juices" in the body, like serotonin, will flow more easily, leading to greater emotional wellness. Life is much too important to take too seriously!
Take the Fake Laughter Challenge below. It's not really a challenge, but it is a lot of fun! |

Pre-Fake Laughter Warm up
Fake Laughter -- can become Real Laughter -- are you ready to loosen up?
I've taught fake giggles and laughs to hundreds of people in my healing laughter classes. This is fun to do with friends, family, pets, and even alone. Here is a step by step laughter process. Ready to try it? Here we go!
Let's loosen up -- do this as gently or wildly as you like, remembering to be kind to your body.
Let's loosen up -- do this as gently or wildly as you like, remembering to be kind to your body.
- Take a big breath, raise your arms and as let your arms fall or wiggle down and let your breath out with a sigh or sound. Ah, that feels so good -- do it a couple of more times.
- Shake out an arm. Shake out your other arm. Shake out someone else's arm (if it would be ok with them), or pretend to shake out someone else's arms.
- Shake out a leg. Shake out the other leg.
- Shake out your whole body. Include your behind whether you're standing or sitting in a chair. It is time to loosen up -- life is way too important to be taken so seriously!
- Shake out your whole body again and add your voice -- try playing with different sounds as you do this.
- Take a deep breath and release it with a sign or sound. WOW -- we're feeling better already and we haven't even gotten to the fake laughter yet.
Fake Laughter -- Here We Go!
I've broken down laughter into it's component parts. Like gathering ingredients for a delicious treat, we'll do each part separately and then put them all together.
- Practice smiling several times.
- Make your eyes big -- open them wide.
- Practice some laughter sounds -- "ha, ha, ho, ho, hee, hee."
- Hold your tummy and rock back & forth. This is something we naturally do when laughing hard. Laughter is very aerobic.
- Put it all together, smile, open your eyes wide, make some laughter sounds, hold your tummy and rock back & forth.
- KEEP GOING -- YOU CAN DO IT. Have you noticed any real laughter sneaking in? -- GOOD!
Fabulous. Give yourself a pat on the back or on the tummy and say, "Thanks for the laughter, you sweet thing."
Or say something else to acknowledge yourself. The more you practice fake laughter, the more genuine laughter and joy will become a part of your life and you deserve a joyful, happy life. Thanks for the laughter.
Fake Laughter Warning: This can look pretty weird so do in the privacy of your own home or some place where others will want to join in.
Have fun sharing fake and real laughter more and more in your life.
